Covid-19 update: 9830 new community cases today along with a further 23 deaths
27/04/2022..Twenty-three more people have died with Covid-19 and there are 9830 new community cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health says. Today's seven-day rolling average of case numbers was 7884, up slightly from 7834 last week.
In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said the 23 deaths being reported today include people who died in the past six days apart, from one death on 3 April. The Ministry said the increase in deaths reported today followed a similar pattern often seen after weekends or public holidays.
"Delays to reporting can also be associated with people dying with Covid-19, rather than from Covid-19, and Covid being discovered only after they have died. More than 700 people with Covid-19 have now died in New Zealand, with the death toll reaching 710..

The blast detonated by the 30-year-old woman on Tuesday blew up a minivan outside Karachi University's Confucius Institute, a Chinese language and cultural centre, killing her, the three Chinese teachers and a Pakistani driver.
It was the first major attack this year against nationals of long-time ally China working in Pakistan, and it drew Beijing's condemnation. A separatist group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) based in the southwestern province of Balochistan, said the mother of two.

Life-changing diagnosis revealed in such a casual manner
10:05 am on 27 April 2022 Megan Whelan, Head of Content..Discovering you have a life-altering condition is a clarifying moment. I found out in a slightly horrifying way. My GP had ordered some blood tests, but I hadn't had the results.
I was seeing a different doctor for something entirely separate, and as she went through my medical history, she blurted out the blood test results. "Oh yes, that will be the diabetes," she said. That day, and the weeks that followed.
I was mad at my body, feeling like it had betrayed me, just as I had started looking after it. Not only did I very quickly have to start thinking about my body as something that was actually a part of me, I had to change how I looked after it.

3:32 pm on 25 April 2022 ..Yuriy Glodan had only left his flat and family to go to the shops when he heard the news of the explosion. O'Town Dreaming: TVNZ's South Auckland talent showcase wholesome and relevant
Sarah McMullan 21:15, Apr 22 2022.....O’Town Dreaming....Showcasing the youth and talent of Ōtara in South Auckland, this eight episode series pulls off the unlikely double billing of being both wholesome and relevant.
Hip-hop creative Jessie Gibson guides us through his Ōtara, where classical music, church choirs, rap battles between mates and the love of a good beat is the driving force behind so many people. Matching up aspiring artists with those who have experience in the areas they lack, the project is all about the next generation of Ōtara musicians telling their own stories their way.
Visually this packs a punch, with the camera operators in particular doing an incredible job of capturing the unique beauty that makes O’Town special. That some of the young artists taking part in the show talk about such personal things on camera is a testament to how at ease they must have felt.

Alexa Cook - 26/04/2022..As if the cost of living wasn't already sky-high, now rental prices have surged yet again to an average of $575 a week, an increase of 7 percent on last year.
The Salvation Army stacks boxes of food that will be divvied up into parcels for those most in need, and as rents rise so too does the demand for food parcels. Hamilton property values more than doubled since 2018
27/04/2022..The average capital value of a residential property is now $922,000. Land values are up 67 percent and commercial and industrial property has increased by 40 percent . The city is now worth $71.4 billion.
Councils are required by law to assess rating valuation of every property to help calculate what rates will be paid for the following three years. The Hamilton City Council said a revaluation doesn't mean council collects more rates, although it may change the way its budget is divided among ratepayers.
The new valuations represent the likely selling price if the property had sold in September last year. The council said it is a snapshot in time and prices may have changed. Its Financial Support Services Manager Matthew Bell said Hamilton's substantial growth in the past few years has been due to several factors including low interest rates.
