With the seventh round of RuPaul's Drag Race fast approaching, it's important not to forget about the gorgeous queens of seasons past. Season two comedy queen Pandora Boxx ventured into the music world following her shocking elimination with a few hits and misses, won't deny loving "Cooter!", but has never made a serious campaign for a dance takeover. Her latest single, the dark and edgy "Different", may just do the trick.
Set to an underground club beat, think Pet Shop Boys, Miss Boxx provides a sultry and slightly addictive message of inspiration to those who have ever felt like an outcast. "Different" features spoken word verses of taking charge and embracing the differences that make one unique. It may not be the most impressive song you will hear this week, however, the crazy, carefree, exhilarating vibe makes for a catchy listen.
"We're different that's what people say, but different in what kind of way?," Boxx sings on the track with ties to the dance, house and pop genres. What makes the new effort stand out most is the surprise turn the drag performer decided to take. This time around Boxx is not delivering a hilarious, campy tune shaming a man's penis, this time she's supported by a slick beat in order to get the lyrics of diversity across.
The accompanying music video for "Different" is another win for the former Drag Race contestant. With a face painted by the gods themselves, Boxx is shown in numerous extravagant outfits, at times even giving some Britney Spears Circus and Ursula, the Sea Bitch realness. With scenes of poofy blue loofahs, golden guns, disco ball bras, powder white twinks, and plenty of cheek shots, the new visual just may be Boxx's best. Plus, the artist is serving unique, fierce and over the top couture. Love it all!
