While not only being a deliciously attractive pop duo, New Zealand-based Broods are a unique pair that are sure to bring true talent back to the music scene. As they are set to unleash their proper debut album this summer, the duo have already made their presence well-known to the world with the release of the synth-pop delight "Bridges", as well as their self-titled EP, released just last month.
Following the release of debut single "Bridges", which is still featured as iTunes' Single of the Week, the talented duo of Caleb and Georgia Nott, quickly signed record deals with both Capitol and Polydor Records in order to make their upcoming impact that much greater. "Bridges" became a critical darling, featured on almost every top music site since its release in 2013. The song was applauded for its smooth, crisp production while the vocals of Georgia were highlighted as effortless and haunting.
"Gave you a minute, when you needed an hour, just to push it aside, instead of leaving it behind you," the song opens, as the intriguing production gently wraps around the lyrics to provide a tranquil yet heartbreaking debut number for the group.
Just as the group was enjoying the positive success and reception to their first single, the siblings wasted no time at showcasing what is still to come with the release of "Never Gonna Change". Produced and co-written by the man behind Lorde's massive hit "Royals", the new song details the difficulties all couples experience during a relationship. Broods will be no one hit wonder.
During another beautiful performance, Georgia shows off her memorable vocal style that was easily compared to those of Lorde and Eliie Goulding, but noted as being able to stand out from the ever-growing crowd of recent rising female acts. The song continues to show a noticeable change on what is drawing an audience. Instead of loud pop beats, we get a eerie, emotional, well-produced creation.
The duo's recent EP also packs many other gorgeous highlights. "Taking You There" is definitely the best of the commendable bunch. Featuring Georgia's vocals alongside those of her brother, the two provide a breezy electronic pop moment that gets swallowed in echos during the chorus as the sparkling production creates a positive vibe for listeners. Next single maybe?
"Coattails" closes the EP and is a slightly different sound for Broods with its heavy, pounding beats and more of a mid-tempo feel instead of the somber ballad-like predecessors. "The earth will reach the sky, if you talk me out of my needs, and stitch me up at the seams, and I could live in my dreams," Georgia sings before the noteworthy chorus takes the song to an entirely different level.
Also included are "Sleep Baby Sleep" and "Pretty Thing" which hold their own on the release and continue to showcase just what type of group Broods really is: an electro-pop loving duo with an eye for hypnotic snyths and an emphasis on haunting vocal performances. What's not to love? Broods will be preparing for the first round of live performances in the states and at the end of this month and will surely continuing building the buzz surrounding their incredible releases.
I sense HUGE things from Broods! They have found a devoted fan in this pop-obsessed blogger!
